The US payments landscape is currently undergoing a transformative shift; more merchants are looking to enable a “pay-by-bank” checkout experience as more consumers are opting to use their bank accounts to directly pay for goods or services. As a leader in open banking solutions, Plaid's Payments Product team is at the forefront of this evolution. By leveraging our vast consumer-permissioned financial data network, we have successfully launched a market-leading “pay-by-bank” product that utilizes bank payment rails such as ACH, RTP, and FedNow to power some of the most renowned fintech companies and help process billions of dollars in ACH transactions each month.

We are looking for an experienced product manager to join our dynamic team as the Product Manager for Payment Risk. In this role, you will shape the strategic direction of our pay-bay-bank offerings by developing of an innovative 0-to-1 payment risk solution that enables a more instant ACH payment and settlement experience for both consumers and merchants. You will help transform our existing products into a state-of-the-art system that not only minimizes risk but also optimizes payment experiences.

Responsibilities

  • Help define the roadmap and influence the strategic direction of our payment products
  • Drive multiple workstreams across the organization, simultaneously
  • Work directly with customers to identify their product needs and priorities
  • Define critical product features and execute the build plan with full-stack and machine-learning engineers
  • Build a risk framework with data scientists and the ACH operations team to minimize losses for both customers and Plaid
  • Devise pricing and sales strategies with GTM and partnership teams
  • Closely collaborate with other product teams to seamlessly integrate payment UX and money movement components
  • Partner with the customer engineering team to enhance post-integration customer engagement and constantly optimize for customer support scaling 

Qualifications

  • 5+ years in product management. You have a proven track record of developing multi-quarter roadmaps, driving outcomes and successfully launching products from the ground up (0-to-1).
  • 4+ years in core payments. You have direct experience with at least one major U.S. payment rail (credit/debit card processing, ACH, other push/pull payment instruments), a deep understanding of the payments ecosystem (merchants, networks, processors, banks) and strong money movement fundamentals (authorization, settlement, dispute handling, chargebacks/returns, and refunds).
  • Deep knowledge in payment risk management. You have managed payment risk functions or teams within environments such as Payment Service Providers (PSPs), Originating Depository Financial Institutions (ODFIs), card acquirers/issuers, or a payment organization in general. You have a close familiarity with payment authorization/funding process, loss exposure control, loss reserve planning, and related payment pricing strategies.
  • Customer & revenue focused. You are comfortable and enthusiastic about interacting with customers, understanding their needs and priorities, and translating these insights into impactful product features that drive revenue.
  • High initiative and get things done. You are self-motivated with a strong bias for action. You are capable of moving quickly to achieve outcomes. You have a high slope for learning and can jump into new domains/problems and make an impact quickly.
  • [Nice to have] Hands-on experience building “faster” ACH products (2-day payroll, “instant” ACH settlement, or ACH/Card/RTP/OCT payment rail optimization).
  • [Nice to have] Hands-on experience building enterprise or developer focused API products.
  • [Nice to have] Previous startup experience. You have experience working in a dynamic/high growth environment.

Target base salary for this role is between $162,000 and $243,000 per year. Additional compensation in the form(s) of equity and/or commission are dependent on the position offered. Plaid provides a comprehensive benefit plan, including medical, dental, vision, and 401(k). Pay is based on factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience and skillset, and location.
