POTENTIAL ISSUE 1

Your financial institution isn’t listed

  • Your financial institution doesn’t use Plaid

Plaid connects to over 12,000 financial institutions, but we haven’t reached them all yet! If you’d like your financial institution to work with Plaid, you can ask them to contact us to get started.

Since new integrations take time, we also recommend checking with the app you’re trying to use—they may have other ways for you to connect your account.

  • Different apps need different types of financial data—such as account balances, transactions, or authentication methods. Sometimes, an app requires data or features that a financial institution doesn’t support.

For example, if an app requires instant account linking through Plaid, but a bank doesn’t support that feature, that bank may not show up in search results.

If you’re running into this issue, check with the app you’re trying to use—they may have other ways for you to connect your account.

  • Sometimes financial institutions make changes that prevent Plaid from sharing your financial information. This could be due to server issues, system upgrades, or a decision by the financial institution itself.

If we can’t establish a reliable connection, we may temporarily or permanently remove the bank from our search results until the issue is resolved.

POTENTIAL ISSUE 2

Your connection failed

  • Your financial institution needs you to take action

Some financial institutions require extra steps before you can connect with Plaid. Log into your financial institution’s website (not the mobile app) and check your settings for options like “Third-Party Sharing” under the Privacy or Security sections.

If you recently opened your account, make sure your cards are activated, online banking is set up, your contact details are up to date, and that you’ve accepted any new terms

If you’re still having trouble, visit our troubleshooting guide. You can also reach out to your financial institution or the app you’re trying to use for more support.

  • If you’re seeing this error, there are a few things to check.

    • Try entering your username and password again to rule out any typos
    • If you’re using a password manager, make sure it’s autofilling the correct details and not adding extra spaces
    • Confirm your login credentials by signing in directly on your financial institution’s website

If you’re still not able to connect, visit our Consumer Help Center for more support.

  • Plaid pulls contact details like phone numbers for multi-factor authentication (MFA) directly from your financial institution. If your phone number is outdated, log into your financial institution’s website or mobile app to update it in your settings.

If possible, add a backup contact method such as a secure email, for MFA codes. If the issue continues, contact your financial institution and ask them to update your details—they may need to update your information across their system. You can also visit our Consumer Help Center for more troubleshooting tips.

Please note: If you chose to save your phone number with Plaid for faster connections in the future, you don’t need to update this number. We send one-time passwords to the number you provided directly to Plaid, which doesn’t need to match the number listed with your financial institution.

  • Plaid may be unable to connect to your financial institution due to technical issues on their end, such as server outages or maintenance. If this happens, try again later.

If the issue continues, check your financial institution’s website or contact their support team to see if they’re experiencing ongoing disruptions.

  • With over 99% reliability, disruptions with Plaid are uncommon—but if you’re having trouble connecting your accounts, there’s a possibility that Plaid might be experiencing an outage or technical issue.

If the issue continues, you can check for any known incidents by reaching out to the app or service you’re connecting to. You can also contact our team through the chat feature in our Consumer Help Center.

  • If you’re not receiving your one-time passcode (OTP), your financial institution may be having issues delivering it, or your contact details may need to be updated. First, check with your financial institution to confirm your phone number or secure email is correct and that you’ve agreed to receive OTPs.

If the issue continues, try reconnecting with a different account or reaching out to the app you’re trying to use for alternative options. You can also visit our Consumer Help Center for more troubleshooting tips.
