Trouble connecting?
Weâve got you. Here are the most common issues and steps you can take to try to fix them.

POTENTIAL ISSUE 1
Your financial institution isnât listed
Your financial institution doesnât use Plaid
Plaid connects to over 12,000 financial institutions, but we havenât reached them all yet! If youâd like your financial institution to work with Plaid, you can ask them to contact us to get started.
Since new integrations take time, we also recommend checking with the app youâre trying to useâthey may have other ways for you to connect your account.Your financial institution uses Plaid, but itâs not compatible with this app
Different apps need different types of financial dataâsuch as account balances, transactions, or authentication methods. Sometimes, an app requires data or features that a financial institution doesnât support.
For example, if an app requires instant account linking through Plaid, but a bank doesnât support that feature, that bank may not show up in search results.
If youâre running into this issue, check with the app youâre trying to useâthey may have other ways for you to connect your account. We canât connect to your financial institution
Sometimes financial institutions make changes that prevent Plaid from sharing your financial information. This could be due to server issues, system upgrades, or a decision by the financial institution itself.
If we canât establish a reliable connection, we may temporarily or permanently remove the bank from our search results until the issue is resolved.

POTENTIAL ISSUE 2
Your connection failed
Your financial institution needs you to take action
Some financial institutions require extra steps before you can connect with Plaid. Log into your financial institutionâs website (not the mobile app) and check your settings for options like âThird-Party Sharingâ under the Privacy or Security sections.
If you recently opened your account, make sure your cards are activated, online banking is set up, your contact details are up to date, and that youâve accepted any new terms
If youâre still having trouble, visit our troubleshooting guide. You can also reach out to your financial institution or the app youâre trying to use for more support.Your login and password may have changed
If youâre seeing this error, there are a few things to check.
⢠Try entering your username and password again to rule out any typos
⢠If youâre using a password manager, make sure itâs autofilling the correct details and not adding extra spaces
⢠Confirm your login credentials by signing in directly on your financial institutionâs website
If youâre still not able to connect, visit our Consumer Help Center for more support. You need to update your phone number
Plaid pulls contact details like phone numbers for multi-factor authentication (MFA) directly from your financial institution. If your phone number is outdated, log into your financial institutionâs website or mobile app to update it in your settings.
If possible, add a backup contact method such as a secure email, for MFA codes. If the issue continues, contact your financial institution and ask them to update your detailsâthey may need to update your information across their system. You can also visit our Consumer Help Center for more troubleshooting tips.
Please note: If you chose to save your phone number with Plaid for faster connections in the future, you donât need to update this number. We send one-time passwords to the number you provided directly to Plaid, which doesnât need to match the number listed with your financial institution.Your financial institution is having technical difficulties
Plaid may be unable to connect to your financial institution due to technical issues on their end, such as server outages or maintenance. If this happens, try again later.
If the issue continues, check your financial institutionâs website or contact their support team to see if theyâre experiencing ongoing disruptions.Plaid is having technical difficulties
With over 99% reliability, disruptions with Plaid are uncommonâbut if youâre having trouble connecting your accounts, thereâs a possibility that Plaid might be experiencing an outage or technical issue.
If the issue continues, you can check for any known incidents by reaching out to the app or service youâre connecting to. You can also contact our team through the chat feature in our Consumer Help Center. You didnât receive your one-time passcode
If youâre not receiving your one-time passcode (OTP), your financial institution may be having issues delivering it, or your contact details may need to be updated. First, check with your financial institution to confirm your phone number or secure email is correct and that youâve agreed to receive OTPs.
If the issue continues, try reconnecting with a different account or reaching out to the app youâre trying to use for alternative options. You can also visit our Consumer Help Center for more troubleshooting tips.
