Product Updates - May 2025
This May, we’ve made key improvements across Plaid—from faster fund availability and smarter fraud detection to a more streamlined onboarding flow. Plus, you can now get instant product support by chatting with Claude in the dashboard. Check out all the latest updates in our API changelog.

Account Verification & Payments

What’s new:
 📅 More clarity for available funds: We added a new field called expected_funds_availability_date in our API and Transfer dashboard reports. This new field gives you advance visibility into when funds from a debit transfer (user pull) or deposit (top-up from your bank) are expected to be available. If the debit hasn’t returned by that date, the funds will move from pending to available in your ledger. If the transfer returns early, the field will be null.

💻 Explore Consumer Report: In our new interactive demo, see how you can approve more borrowers with less risk using real-time cash flow data and income insights. With Consumer Report, it’s easy for consumers to securely share their bank account data, unlocking key use cases for lenders through insights like primary account flag, historical balance information, future income prediction, categorized spending, and more.
🔎 Get started with real-time insights: In our new resource article, you’ll find a step-by-step guide to integrating cash flow data into your lending tech stack to enhance underwriting and expand credit access.
What’s better:
⚡ Faster phone and device verifications: We’re introducing Silent Network Authentication (SNA) in Link for Consumer Report. Eligible Link sessions will now have a faster way to verify user phone numbers and devices using their mobile carrier (e.g. AT&T, T-Mobile and Verizon). SNA happens automatically in the background with no user input required so it’s secure and phish-resistant. Upgrade to the latest Plaid SDKs to be eligible for continued improvements to the authentication flow such as SNA.
🔧 Improved Consumer Report troubleshooting: We’ve enhanced our webhooks and API endpoints to clarify what causes errors. Our CHECK_REPORT_READY webhook now indicates both successful and failed products. When a report returns a DATA_UNAVAILABLE error, a new `causes` field will provide a detailed breakdown of the underlying issue. Additionally, even for successful reports, a new warnings field will specify any linked items that experienced failures and the reasons why.

What’s new:
🧠Risk-Based Escalations: Plaid Identity Verification can now dynamically step up to ID Document or Selfie checks after a database verification based on a user's Trust Index score–not just a failed data source verification. This new feature enables you to assess the risk associated with a user sooner in the verification process and move good users through verification faster.
What’s better:
📊 Smarter backtesting for Signal rules: We've overhauled the metrics in our Signal backtesting flow to give you sharper insights into the expected impact of your rule changes—making it easier to test, refine, and optimize your risk strategies.
Onboarding

✨ A smoother Link experience: We’ve simplified the Link flow by merging the consent and phone number steps into one streamlined screen. We also gave the copy a quick polish to make things clearer. The result? A faster, more intuitive experience for both new and returning users. This update is rolling out now and will reach 100% of traffic by May 7th.

🏦 Tokenized account numbers for U.S. Bank: This month, Plaid will begin returning tokenized account and routing numbers (TANs) in /auth calls for U.S. Bank. Existing account and routing numbers already stored will continue to work as expected.Â
📊 Real-time visibility for API migrations: You can now view real-time institution statuses and timelines to help plan for upcoming migrations, directly from the dashboard. From the Activity tab, navigate to Status then Migrations. In the future, you’ll be able to subscribe to migration updates and get email alerts for any timeline changes.

✨ Streamlined onboarding for data partners: We’ve revamped the onboarding experience for data partners to be more intuitive and guide partners smoothly through every step of their open finance journey.Â
🛠️ Enhancements to Integration Health: We’ve added API performance metrics and made behind-the-scenes improvements in data quality and reliability to Integration Health in the data partner dashboard.

📱 Enhanced UX with Single Sign-On (SSO): We now offer SSO login to the dashboard for all customers, except those on pay-as-you-go-plans. You can enable your account for SSO via the Settings tab in the dashboard.Â
