Powering growth for home service businesses

AdminiPay helps small and medium-sized home service businesses—from plumbers and electricians to builders and contractors—manage payments, clients, and growth in one platform. AdminiPay delivers a CRM-driven payments system with AI automation and invoice management tools that help companies save time and money.

In 2024, AdminiPay built a unified payment platform for a nationwide home services network with more than 5,500 franchised locations. That network serves 12 million consumers across 2.5 million homes and represents more than $4 billion in gross revenue. To serve businesses at this kind of scale, AdminiPay needed a way to deliver payments that were fast, cost-efficient, and easy to integrate. That’s where Plaid came in.

“Plaid helps us separate ourselves. Instead of just another payments platform, we can be a true solution for the businesses we currently serve,” said Chad Rutledge, Founder AdminiPay.

The challenge: Outdated payments systems and manual onboarding

Before partnering with Plaid, AdminiPay struggled to deliver a modern ACH payment experience for home service merchants. Legacy processors offered limited visibility into cash flow, leaving businesses unable to track transactions or forecast income. Manual onboarding and slow underwriting processes could take weeks, which prevented contractors from accepting payments quickly and impacting their customer satisfaction. While these business owners were focused on providing a high level of service to grow revenue, their payments experience did not meet that same standard.

Beyond credit card payments, AdminiPay sought to offer ACH billing to lower processing costs and give homeowners more payment options. Previous solutions lacked the speed, transparency, and API flexibility that AdminiPay required to scale.

Choosing Plaid: A flexible partner built for scale

After months of evaluating ACH providers, direct bank integrations and alternative processors, AdminiPay chose Plaid.

“We wanted a partner we could grow with and a tech platform that was malleable enough to meet the needs of our merchants. Plaid delivered.” - Chad Rutledge, Founder, AdminiPay.

Key decision factors for their team included speed, underwriting automation, real-time visibility, and the flexibility of Plaid’s API-driven platform.

"The integration with Plaid was one of the best integration experiences we’ve ever had as an engineering team. The speed at which we were able to integrate and the ability to get immediate resolution when issues arose with the Plaid team really set the bar high."

Driving efficiency and visibility with Plaid Transfer

Plaid Transfer enabled same-day ACH payments, improving cash flow visibility and helping contractors get paid faster. With Plaid’s real-time dashboards, AdminiPay merchants can now track payment status, reconcile invoices, and forecast income—all in one platform.

“ACH represents the ability for the merchant to provide the customer a choice besides a credit card. This also allows the merchant to reduce the cost of that transaction by over 76%, from 3.25% to 0.75%.” - Erik Jensen, CTO, AdminiPay.

Accelerating merchant onboarding with Plaid APIs

With Plaid’s APIs, AdminiPay reduced merchant onboarding from weeks to minutes. Contractors can now typically begin accepting ACH payments instantly, with embedded onboarding flows that connect to AdminiPay’s CRM for client tracking and invoice management.

“Our previous solution took weeks to set up and did not add any real value to the end consumer or merchant. It was also not as robust from a technical integration and provided no visibility for funds in transit." said Chad Rutledge, Founder, AdminiPay

Looking ahead: What’s next for AdminiPay

AdminiPay’s vision of an all-in-one hub for payments, invoicing, and client management remains steadfast. With Plaid as its primary ACH processing partner, AdminiPay can continue to meet the evolving challenges with confidence.

“Payments are where we meet the customer, and we decide how seamless that interaction can be. Plaid and AdminiPay are providing a true all-in-one payment orchestration solution with real-time visibility and underwriting. With Plaid, we know we have a partner to support these requests and meet the customer where business happens.” said Erik Jensen, CTO AdminiPay

Looking forward, AdminiPay plans to expand beyond payments into underwriting, reconciliation, and broader financial services. Their partnership with Plaid is key to scaling securely while delivering the transparency and speed that merchants demand.

“The ability to pull the details present in the dashboard through API calls into our unified platform view was critical to the rollout’s success. Without visibility into payment status and the movement of funds, merchants are used to flying blind and can’t properly plan cash flow for their businesses. This visibility has been a key differentiator for our merchants.”
