From budgeting and saving to investing and financial advice, Albert is the personal financial assistant helping millions of Americans get smarter about money. But delivering a seamless experience at scale depends on something customers rarely think about: fast, secure onboarding and robust fraud protection that keep bad actors out—yet don’t complicate the experience for everyone else.

As Albert grew, the team partnered with Plaid across core data access and fraud solutions like Plaid Protect to explore how to reduce fraud and support platform integrity. In this conversation,  the Albert team explains why Plaid was the right choice to support the company’s mission and how Plaid Protect helped Albert incorporate fraud signals to make clearer, smarter decisions.

"Security at Albert is about being as precise as possible. Our evaluation of Plaid Protect showed that their network-level signals can provide a helpful additional source of intelligence—giving us another layer to refine how we spot risk without slowing down the experience for our members."

- The Albert team

Plaid: Albert’s mission is to help millions of Americans get smarter about money. How does trust and security factor into delivering that experience for your customers?

Albert:
Trust is a baseline for us. If our members don't feel their information is secure, the rest of the experience doesn't matter. Our goal is to maintain that security behind the scenes—using data to be as precise as possible so we can protect our community without creating unnecessary hurdles for them.

Plaid: What led you to choose Plaid as a long-term partner, and what stood out during the evaluation process?

Albert:
We already have a strong foundation and partnership with Plaid, so exploring their security tools was a natural next step. What stood out was the scale of their network. Because they see activity across so many different financial apps, they can provide a level of context that’s hard to get elsewhere. It's a useful resource for our team as we look to add more intelligence to our existing defenses.

Plaid: What motivated Albert to run the Plaid Protect retro analysis, and what questions were you hoping it would answer?

Albert:
We’re always looking for ways to identify risk earlier in the user journey. The goal of the retro was to see how Plaid Protect’s signals might complement our existing models—helping us understand where we can be more precise with our decisioning without adding friction for our members.

Plaid: How did Plaid help you translate those insights into action, both improving fraud detection and optimizing the customer experience?

Albert:
The retro showed us where Plaid’s network visibility could catch risks that internal data might not see alone. Those insights have helped us refine our risk assessment—essentially giving us more context to make a precise call on a user.

Plaid: Which Protect capabilities delivered the most value for Albert, and why did they stand out compared to other approaches you’ve tried?

Albert:
The biggest value for us is the network-level visibility. Most fraud tools only see what’s happening within your own app, but Plaid sees patterns across thousands of others. That broader perspective stands out because it provides an extra layer of intelligence before a user even interacts with us—giving us a head start on risk that we wouldn't have with internal data alone.

Plaid: Looking ahead, how do you see this partnership supporting Albert’s mission as you continue to grow?

Albert:
As we scale, our priority is to stay ahead of increasingly sophisticated fraud without compromising the member experience. We see the value in Plaid’s broader network intelligence—it’s a compelling resource that helps us be more proactive. We’re focused on how we can best use those shared signals to keep our platform secure while we continue to grow.
