CUSTOMER: REPLIT
Putting financial data in every builder’s toolkit

Every business, team, and person has different financial needs, and the tools they require look different too. A business wants to monitor its progress. An employee or company team needs a view across several accounts. An individual wants a dashboard for their own spending. Until recently, getting that exact tool built meant knowing how to code.
Replit, an agentic software creation platform, turns plain-language prompts into working applications. With the Plaid connector on Replit, builders can securely connect their company or personal financial accounts, then ask Replit Agent to build a team budget dashboard, an investment tracker, or a more advanced tool—all on real, up-to-date data. It’s part of the broader shift toward intelligent finance, putting personalized financial tools within reach of more people.
We sat down with Michele Catasta, President at Replit, to talk about how the integration works, why Replit chose Plaid, and what happens when the people who need a financial tool are the ones who build it.
Plaid: Tell us about Replit. What does it do and who does it serve?
Catasta: For the past ten years, our claim to fame has been bringing down the barriers to entry to coding. First, we created a platform where it was very easy to learn how to write code. It turned out that wasn’t enough to reach the billion people we had in mind. So two years ago, we launched Replit Agent, which took even learning to code out of the equation. And we’ve recently decided to expand our platform even further, so today Replit has really become the best place for knowledge workers to get work done.
Plaid: Where does financial data fit into that picture? Why was connecting to Plaid important?
Catasta: Our dream has always been to empower everyone to create the type of software they need, whether that’s an individual at home, someone starting their own business, or the most advanced enterprise customers. To accomplish that, it’s not enough to make it easier to create code. You also want to be an amazing player in the ecosystem of products that exist around the world.
Plaid is a critical integration for us to have. A lot of our users want to create apps for their personal finance management—products that connect to their financial data through Plaid. In fact, just a few months after we launched the first version of our agent, we were getting requests from users to have integrations with Plaid. So it became obvious to us that we had to make this happen as soon as possible.
Plaid: What changes when an agent can work with someone’s financial information?
Catasta: For many years, if you wanted to manage your finances, you needed to know what to do with the data. You needed some basic level of financial literacy to make it useful. Now we have a lot of intelligence almost for free, from frontier models that are powerful but raw. I think Replit with Plaid is really a match made in heaven: it connects an agent that’s really easy to use, but at the same time extremely powerful, with a source of information that our users care very much about. Our users don’t even need basic financial understanding. Our agent can give them valuable insights.
“Replit with Plaid is really a match made in heaven.”

Plaid: What about businesses? Running one means tracking finances very closely. Are they getting those insights too?
Catasta: They are. We have a lot of folks starting their first business on Replit. We see companies of 50, 100, 500 people running almost completely on Replit today. They all have the same type of financial needs, just more powerful, more timely, more exhaustive. And we’re making this happen with this integration.
Access depends on permissions. If you’re the account admin for the whole company, you get access to everything, but we respect the permissions an account has. An employee would probably see only their team’s budget, for example—not the company’s.
Plaid: Let’s get specific. What can people build with Replit and Plaid together?
Catasta: Fundamentally, the Plaid integration on Replit lets you do two different but similarly powerful things. On one end, you can build applications based on Plaid. You can have your personal financial dashboard that connects directly to live data. Or you might be an employee at an enterprise who wants a much more advanced financial dashboard that connects across several accounts. You can make that happen on Replit today.
On the other end, there’s the agentic point of view, which I’m also very excited about. Once you can connect to the data source, rather than creating static dashboard views, you can have your agent gain insights. It can go through historical transactions, figure out a transaction you’re not happy with or something you should have handled more carefully in the past, or give you trends in spend for your company or the revenue it’s generating. All of this is possible because we’re able to attach an intelligence layer on top of Plaid, thanks to Replit Agent.
Plaid: Walk us through how that works. When does Plaid show up in a builder’s workflow?
Catasta: The Plaid experience on Replit is really seamless. As you’re working with our agent, you’re explaining yourself in natural language—you’re having a conversation with our product. At the time you decide the integration with Plaid is necessary, you just ask our agent to securely connect your financial accounts through Plaid, and we show you a pop-up to do so. It’s a simple click if you’ve already created your account.
So if you want to create your own application and publish it online, it’ll talk to Plaid and collect the permissioned data that’s necessary for the dashboard you're building. You don’t have to be a developer to create very powerful products.
Plaid: Why did Replit choose to work with Plaid?
Catasta: Plaid is equally famous in the market for its data quality and great developer experience, and for how trustworthy a player it’s been in the financial world. Both matter a lot to us. Creating very powerful dashboards on top of your financial data works much better when the developer experience is top-notch, and we’ve seen that with every single user on our Plaid integration today. We also want our users to have a great experience, knowing that the data our agent gets access to is high quality and very reliable.

Plaid: You mentioned trustworthiness. Why does trust matter so much here?
Catasta: We live in a world where we keep talking about cybersecurity and AI—and rightly so. It’s probably one of the hottest topics, for good reason. It’s imperative, especially today, to inspire trust in the people using our products. We need to be very careful in deploying this technology correctly.
For Replit, partnering with a company like Plaid that cares as much as we do about security matters a lot. Plaid’s reputation for trust carries over to our users when they create their own use cases connected to Plaid. We inspire trust in our users because we work with companies that care about it as much as we do.
Plaid: With that trust in place, what are you seeing people build?
Catasta: My favorite story is a head of product who was trying to convince the entire product team to build an integration with Plaid and expand what their product did toward personal finance. Replit is the best platform to prototype quickly and convince everyone in your company to follow your product idea. They made it happen in just half an hour, with real data connected to their own Plaid account, and convinced the company it was worth pursuing.
Plaid: We love that. To conclude, what’s the one thing you want people to take away?
Catasta: The Replit and Plaid integration really enables every team to create products with financial insights as fast as it gets. And every person, regardless of their technical background, can create applications at Replit.
