Powering the new wave of builders

More than half of banked US adults use Plaid, with nearly 1 million new account connections daily. Now, those Plaid users can leverage their own data to create personalized financial experiences. Using Replit, builders who connect their financial accounts through Plaid can receive clean, categorized transaction data and detailed investment holdings no matter where they bank today in the U.S. 

It’s the same infrastructure that has powered leading fintech apps for more than a decade. Now natively available inside of Replit.

How the Plaid connector works in Replit

Getting started takes about five minutes. 

Here’s the flow:

1. Create a Replit account at replit.com - check out our partner page.

2. Create a Plaid dashboard account through the trial flow and obtain your client ID and secret from the dashboard. Replit stores your personal keys in a vault that is never shared with third parties.

3. Add Plaid as a connector inside your Replit project.

4. Use the newly configured Plaid connector to connect your preferred financial accounts. You can also use Plaid’s sandbox with synthetic data to prototype first.

5. Prompt Replit to build your app. Replit will reference your Plaid connection as a data source. Check out our vibe coding tips to help. Replit builders will only be able to access their own financial data.

Plaid’s sandbox makes it easy to test before connecting a live account. When you’re ready, Plaid Link handles authentication to your real-time, permissioned financial data.

What you can build with Plaid on Replit

With the Plaid connector on Replit, builders can create individualized financial tools or services using their own Plaid data. Two great places to start: a spending insights app and an investments tracker.

Spending Insights

Build an app that reads your transactions and shares insights on your spending. With the Plaid connector, you can securely connect your primary bank account to Replit. Once connected, you can prompt Replit to pull your categorized transaction data and build a personalized dashboard, summary, or chat interface. 

Create a personalized insights app that answers questions like: “How much did I spend on dining out this month compared to last?” “What are my top three spending categories over the past 90 days?” “How has my daily spending trended recently?” Build alerts, graphs, weekly summaries, or any features that help you make the most sense of your finances.

Investments Tracker

Create a dashboard that pulls in your real portfolio holdings and helps you understand performance over time. Link your primary brokerage account with the Plaid connector to get a holistic view of your securities, positions, balances, and cost basis. Then build customized visuals to answer questions like: “How is my portfolio diversified across asset classes?” “Which holdings have moved the most this month?” and “Am I overexposed to any single sector?”
