Software Engineer - Security (Zero Trust)

Remote | Full-time

We believe the way people interact with their finances will drastically improve in the next few years. We’re dedicated to empowering this transformation by building the tools and infrastructure developers need to create their own products. Plaid powers the tools millions of people rely on to live a healthier financial life. We work with thousands of companies like Venmo and SoFi, several of the Fortune 500, and many of the largest banks to make it easy for people to connect their financial accounts to the apps and services they want to use. Plaid’s network covers 11,000 financial institutions across the US, Canada, UK and Europe. Founded in 2013, the company is headquartered in San Francisco with offices in New York, Salt Lake City, Washington D.C., London and Amsterdam.

Identity and Access Management is a critical part of the Security Engineering team. We are responsible for building infrastructures and services for Plaid employees to manage access to the critical information assets, auditing & analyzing data access. Our team aims to provide engineering solutions and access control experiences with our high bar for security. We believe in the zero trust security model and are always looking for ways to improve our access control platforms.

In this role, you will design, develop, and own systems and infrastructures to allow zero-trust service-to-service authentication and authorization. You will also design, develop, and own systems and services that manage data access, user groups, and permissions.  You will build access control primitives that engineering teams across the company can use in their systems to improve their security posture. You will also provide security consult and help engineering teams to seamlessly manage (i.e., grant, revoke, audit, and analyze) their data access. Additionally, you will influence the company security policy, standards, and priorities with regards to IAM, and you will provide mentorship and guidance to level-up your teammates.

What excites you

  • Improving security through building software.
  • Working across legal, product, and engineering to improve security at the company level.
  • Setting a new standard for identity and access management across the financial industry.
  • Thinking of security primitives like encryption, access control, and auditing as products with fellow engineers for customers.

What excites us

  • 2+ years of experience building scalable systems and services.
  • Experience building systems related to (ideally one or more): service identity, service-to-service authentication, service-to-service authorization, transport security, access management, credential management, and access policy management.
  • Experience with threat modeling, security architecture reviews, or incident response.
  • Passionate about educating others on security and privacy.
