The global Legal team at Plaid works at the intersection of technology and financial services on disruptive innovations that require creative and pragmatic legal solutions. We deal with novel issues every day and work collaboratively across Plaid’s product, business, operations, risk and policy teams, as well as with our customers and partners.  
Plaid is growing globally and we are looking for a Payments and Regulatory Counsel (based in either the UK or Amsterdam) to join our growing European team to advise and provide strategic direction to our UK and European product and business teams, and other key stakeholders on a range of issues including PSD2, Open Banking, payments and eMoney, AML/CTF and KYC, as well as other regulatory, marketing, data protection and privacy issues.
We’re looking for a creative and collaborative team member with strong problem-solving skills who can manage multiple, high-priority projects in a fast-paced environment. 

What excites you:

  • Being a key part of a fast-growing team developing products and services for consumers across the UK and Europe
  • Monitoring and advising Plaid’s product and business teams and other stakeholders on developments and legal issues within the payments regulatory space including PSD2 (RTS and SCA), Open Banking, payments and eMoney, licensing requirements, data protection and regulatory compliance (including anti-money laundering, countering terrorist financing, know your client/business, anti-bribery and corruption, and cybersecurity)
  • Coordinating and collaborating across Plaid’s compliance, product, and business teams relating to product development and launch across UK and NEW European markets 
  • Designing, developing, and improving legal processes to support and protect the business as we scaleAnticipating and identifying risks, and proposing creative and effective solutions to address those risks
  • Supporting licensing and regulatory relations, as necessary

What excites us:

  • UK or Dutch qualified lawyer, with at least 5 years of relevant post qualification experience at a regulated payment institution, top international law firm, or in-house legal department, preferably with experience in the financial services sector and/or at a fast-growing startup 
  • Strong understanding of the laws and regulations impacting authorised payment institutions, including, but not limited to, PSD2, GDPR, anti-money laundering, countering terrorist financing, know your client/business, anti-bribery and corruption, and cybersecurity
  • Eager to learn about new and emerging technologies
  • Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Strong project-management skills, with attention to detailGood sense of humor
  • Excitement for Plaid’s mission and fintech
  • Experience dealing with regulators (FCA, DNB) a plus
