Experienced Software Engineer - Backend (Consumer Platform)

United States | Full-time

We build simple yet innovative consumer products and developer APIs that shape how everybody interacts with money and the financial system.

We believe that the way people interact with their finances will drastically improve in the next few years. We’re dedicated to empowering this transformation by building the tools and experiences that thousands of developers use to create their own products. Plaid powers the tools millions of people rely on to live a healthier financial life. We work with thousands of companies like Venmo, SoFi, several of the Fortune 500, and many of the largest banks to make it easy for people to connect their financial accounts to the apps and services they want to use. Plaid’s network covers 12,000 financial institutions across the US, Canada, UK and Europe. Founded in 2013, the company is headquartered in San Francisco with offices in New York, Salt Lake City, Washington D.C., London and Amsterdam. #LI-Remote

The Consumer Platform team’s mission is to build trust with consumers in a way that enables customers and data partners to achieve their goals in an open finance ecosystem. We do this in 2 two ways - by working on Link and the Plaid Privacy Portal to build best-in-class data privacy experiences, and by building the right abstractions and platform capabilities to enable other product teams at Plaid to independently build delightful consumer experiences.

As an engineer on the team, you will work on privacy/authorization products that are central to Plaid’s mission. Your work will be both broad and deep; spanning broadly across Plaid’s data models, requiring understanding of our core API products and focused deeply on user comprehension. You will work collaboratively with Product, Design, Support, Marketing, Legal, and Policy teams to bring privacy features to life.

What excites you

  • You’re inspired by our mission to improve data transparency and controls in Fintech.
  • You like working broadly. Privacy/AuthZ concerns cut across product and technical domains, and you’re excited to think “big picture” about a consumer’s data profile.
  • You enjoy collaborating with Product, Design, Support, Marketing, Legal, and Policy to serve our shared mission.

What excites us

  • 5+ years of production experience, core fundamentals, and a strong command of at least one language.
  • Experience with React, Typescript, and/or Golang.
  • Willingness to operate on the frontend (may spend up to 20% of time on front end work for certain projects).
  • Product mindset. You understand that building the right tools and systems can impact millions of users.
  • Adaptability. Most of our engineers work across the entire stack, touching everything from the front end to our core infrastructure.
  • Someone who actively considers the fine balance between shipping speed and perfection.
  • A record of mentoring both junior and experienced engineers around you and helping them grow.
