About the Design team
The design team at Plaid is made up of product designers, design systems designers, brand designers, researchers, and content strategists who work with our cross-functional partners to create Plaid’s products.

What you’ll do here
The Design Systems team is responsible for creating the unifying visual and interaction design foundation for all our user experiences. All product teams at Plaid rely on our design system to build beautiful, usable, and consistent user experiences.

As a UX Engineer on Design Systems, you will join a multidisciplinary team to lay the foundations of Threads, our design system, from vision to design, implementation, and maintenance of our components, patterns, guidelines, and toolkits. This role is vital to our team and has a multiplier effect, as the output of your work will be reflected in experiences across all our products. 

What excites you

  • Providing strong input into strategy for bringing our design system from zero to one, as we expand it into Plaid’s products and platforms
  • Taking the lead on designing the foundations of our design system
  • Writing clean, semantic HTML and proficient in styling with modern CSS techniques
  • Designing maintainable and extensible components that are designed to be used across the organization
  • Examining and experimenting with emerging UI technologies; pushing the boundaries of what is possible to help systems scale
  • Pushing investment in an inclusive and accessible user experience
  • Contributing to the vision of how we organize and maintain our system, including how we organize and structure our tooling
  • Working collaboratively to drive system adoption across design, product, and engineering teams
  • Contributing to our design team and culture through collaboration, play, presenting work, and sharing feedback
  • Ideally, we’re looking for someone who has familiarity with multi-platform design systems and knowledge of atomic design principles, tokens, and semantic naming

What excites us

  • 4-6 total experience as a designer/engineer. Bonus if you have experience working as a UXE on a design systems team, reflected in having shipped design systems work
  • Passionate about designing maintainable and extensible components that are designed to be used across the organization at scale
  • Proficient in developing User Interfaces using a component-based approach. We use React, Typescript, and Storybook to build and maintain our system
  • Writes clean, semantic HTML and is proficient in styling with modern techniques, such as SCSS modules
  • Experience creating performant interfaces, and excited about working with emerging UI technologies
  • Experience working across platforms (iOS, Android, Web, Desktop, etc.)
  • Strong knowledge of interaction design, visual design, and usability best practices
  • Solid understanding of digital accessibility, along with techniques required to conform with WCAG 2.1 AA guidelines
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills. Comfortable working across multiple product areas, building relationships, and connecting different workstreams into a unified system for all
  • Ideally, we’re looking for someone with familiarity in Figma, design systems, knowledge of frameworks/tooling such as atomic design principles, tokens, and semantic naming
